2024 BMW 5 Series Sedan filmed in traffic during final testing

Several prototypes of the 2024 BMW 5 Series Sedan are undergoing final testing ahead of the official launch this summer. The cars were seen driving down the Pacific Coast Highway with all stock bodywork hidden. Some cars have less camouflage than others, giving us a better idea of how the design of the upcoming G60 will change. We can also see the final headlights and taillights, as well as the newly designed flush door handles.
If BMW’s current design makes you worry about the styling direction of the eighth generation 5 Series, we’re sure the next generation car won’t have a controversial look. It is clear that the grille is not too large, and the headlights have a traditional layout, without separating the daytime running lights from the main light beams.
We are under the impression that the sedan looks cooler and this should carry over to the G61 Touring as well. In addition, the already confirmed body styles of the i5 sedan and wagon will look nearly identical. There are also two versions of the M5, and spy shots show that BMW is already testing a sedan (G90). We may see the van (G99) at the Nürburgring later this year.
Before you get too excited, the M5 duo is unlikely to arrive in late 2024 or early 2025. Meanwhile, the next generation of the 5 Series will debut as a sedan with petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains, paired with the first all-electric i5. Don’t expect another M550i as we’ve heard only the M5 will have a V8. Instead, the M Performance 5 Series will likely be a straight-six plug-in hybrid for the yet-to-be-confirmed M560e xDrive.
What doesn’t show up in the nearby spy video is the interior, but it’s easy to imagine BMW upgrading the 5-Series’ cabin. As the first model with iDrive 8.5, the luxury sedan features a curved display with a 12.3-inch driver display and a 14.9-inch touchscreen placed side by side behind a glass panel. The latter will provide access to the vast majority of functions, as the center console will be simplified by getting rid of most of the traditional buttons. Yes, air conditioning is on. Just take a look at the 3 Series LCI and the 7 Series G70 to see how the dashboard has been redesigned for the new 5er.
Only a few months left before the world premiere. Logic tells us we’ll only see the 5 Series sedan/i5, with a more practical wagon coming in a few months.
